York City 4 v 5 Vixens |
|
Saturday 15th September 2007 |
Vixens came away with the points after an exciting game that left players and parents exhausted.
Vixens began well, and went two goals up through a lovely Edina free kick and an explosive finish from Erica. At half time it was 2-0 and everyone was relaxed such had been vixens domination. However York came out fighting and within 5 minutes had equalised ,2 well crafted goals from Erica and Teneesha restored vixens lead but York came back again with 2 goals to make it 4-4. With 5 mins left Teneesha scored a great solo goal to win the game. Well done to both sides for such an excellent game.

Vixens 7 v 3 Morley Spurs |
|
Saturday 22nd September 2007 |
Playing their first home game of the season, Vixens had to work hard to record their second win on a really warm Saturday morning.
The odds didn't look so good at half time , with the scores level at 2-2 and three players having picked up injuries, it took a big effort from the team to win the game. The goals were shared out between Edina 3, Teneesha 2, Charlotte and Vanessa, but credit to all the team for sticking to the task, when some were clearly tiring, gasping for a drink, and in some cases playing on despite carrying knocks. Morley are capable and competetive opponents who seemed to tire in the last twenty minutes of the game, but they played their full part in another good game of girls football.

Oulton 1 v 7 Vixens |
|
Saturday 29th September 2007 |
Vixens progressed to the second round of the cup with a comfortable win over second division Oulton.
With Edina and Fran out debuts were handed to new signings Carrie and Freya. After ten minutes of the game Teneesha had to leave the field with a back injury so vixens were missing some influential players. It was noticeable that Edina's presence was missing as play was scrappy and disjointed, but still Vixens had a 4-1 half time lead, thanks to a hat trick for Carrie and a long range goal for Erica. The second half saw a further two goals for Carrie and one more for Erica. There were excellent debuts for both Carrie and Freya who both look like good additions to the squad, if and when everybody is fit and available, manager Tim is going to have the right kind of selection problem.

|
Vixens 6 v 2 Bradford City |
|
Saturday 13th October 2007 |
Vixens continued their winning ways with a deserved win over local rivals Bradford.
With edina still injured Freya was moved into midfield and Fran returned to play in defence. In the first half Bradford looked like a team
that like to pass the ball about but the Vixens defence was well organised
and managed to break up their attacks. The difference between the two teams
was that the Vixens have a good cutting edge up front and duly came away
from half time with a 4 - 1 lead, thanks to goals from Erica, Becky and 2
for Carrie.
Erica made it 5-1 and her second with a long drive before Bradford got their
second from a corner. Teneesha finished the score off at 6-2 after rounding
the goalkeeper in fine style for another good team effort to maintain their
unbeaten run so far.

|
Doncaster 4 v 2 Vixens |
|
Saturday 3rd November 2007 |
Vixens suffered their first defeat in a tough competitive game against the Belles.
Erica put Vixens ahead but it was cancelled out just before half time to go in level at the break. Belles went ahead on 67 minutes but Vixens were soon back in the game with an equaliser and looked as if they could snatch victory. But Belles retaliated with 2 late goals to win the match.

|
Vixens 2 v 0 Goole Town |
|
Saturday 10th November 2007 |
This would usually be one of the toughest fixtures of the season as Goole are the current League champions but unfortunately for them (but to their credit) they turned up with only 9 players. This did take the edge off the game somewhat.
Goals from Freya & Edina secured the points but Goole fought all the way and with the wind in their favour in the second half they played some decent football with several chances to take something from the game.
Injuries continue to hamper the Vixens and it look's like being quite sometime before we can field our strongest side again. Nevertheless we continue to look good.

|
Tigers 0 v 6 Vixens |
|
Saturday 17th November 2007 |
Vixens are through to the quarter finals of the cup after a convincing win over last season's winners Tigers.
Vixens dominated from start to finish, scorers were Carrie2, Freya2, Teneesha and Jane. Georgie in goals didn't have a shot of any note to save throughout the game. Tigers have lost some good players to the acadamies and it showed. Bad news for Vixens in that Edina has torn knee ligaments and is probably out for the season.
|
|
Huddersfield 3 v 6 Vixens |
|
Saturday 24th November 2007 |
Vixens were slow to start in this game and were soon 2-0 down, before Teneesha scored to put us back in the game before half time.
This should have given us impetus for the second half, but it was Huddersfield who scored almost straight from the kick off to make it 3-1, at this stage things were looking as bleak as the weather. Carrie pulled a goal back before Georgie saved a penalty to keep us in the game, four goals in the last ten minutes , 2 for Teneesha and 1 each for Carrie and Charlotte , won the game, but gives a scoreline that is harsh on Huddersfield. It is good to see Huddersfield improving after a poor start to the season, good competitive games are good for the league.

York City 6 v 1 Vixens |
|
Saturday 5th January 2008 Possibly? |
Vixens produced their worst performance for a couple of seasons and suffered this heavy defeat.
Another slow start saw York go 4-0 up inside 16 minutes, Erica pulled a goal back and Vixens had chances to make it 4-2 , but York scored a fifth before half time, which seemed to kill off the game. York made it 6 with a free kick late in the second half to complete a miserable afternoon.
To keep things in perspective, this was a rare bad day, vixens have to roll up their sleeves, pull together and show a lot more fight in their next game.

|
Bradford City 3 v 3 Vixens |
|
Saturday 26th January 2008 |
A terrific free kick from the Bradford forward 5 minutes from the end of the
game meant that the points were shared.
The score line was a fair reflection
of the game, with Vixens dominating the first half , and Bradford the
second. 2 goals from Freya gave Vixens the lead at the interval but it could
have been 5 or 6 with steadier finishing. Bradford dominated the second half
and from being 3-1 down brought the score line to 3-3 with 2 late goals. The
wind was a big factor in this game making it difficult for the girls to play
good football. Bradford deserve credit for the way they passed the ball
around and Vixens for their spirit and determination.

|
Goole Town 3 v 1 Vixens |
|
Saturday 1st March 2008 ? |
There is no doubt that Goole were the
worthy winners of this game, they played very well and dominated , but this
was a sterling effort from a depleted Vixens team.
The first half saw Vixens
defending with great determination, with Loz looking comfortable in her
first game at sweeper, clear strikes on the Vixens goal were kept to a
minimum. All the goals were scored in the second half and all were quality
efforts. Goole took the lead with a tremendous shot from their centre
forward who was a real handfull all game. Teneesha equalised with a goal
from the edge of the 18 yard area to give Vixens some hope, but as the
vixens girls tired, Goole enjoyed the time and space to play some good
football and ran out 3-1 winners.
These are difficult times for the under
16's , we are struggling to find 11 fit players but the girls cannot be
faulted for their efforts.
|
It seems that both clubs are having
difficulties at the moment!
Vixens turned up with 11 players, a couple of
whom are playing when they should really be recovering from injury, whilst
Huddersfield could only field 10 players, which was reduced to 9 when one of
their girls limped off midway through the second half. Play was a bit
scrappy at times, but when Vixens did string some passes together they
created chandes and took the lead after 25 minutes with a composed finish
from Teneesha. In the second half, Vixens spurned quite a few chances befre
another two late goals from Teneesha amd Tishana sealed the win. Well done
to the Huddersfield girls who kept going when down to 9 players.

Vixens 1 v 4 Morley Spurs |
|
Saturday 5th April 2008 ? |
A disappointing effort from the home side.
Some of the players try their best but are let down by others who just don't
seem to be that interested, this is really frustrating because there is
enough ability in the side to give any team in the league a run for their
money. Morley deserved to win, they were more commited and energetic, they
were first to the ball every time, the message is simple, you can have all
the ability in the world but it is no good if you don't compete. Freya
scored the Vixens goal after a good 4 player passing move, she deserved to
score having run herself to a standstill again, she is one of the players i
feel sorry for.

|
Goole Town 1 v 2 Vixens |
|
Saturday 12th April 2008 ? |
This was a much more commited effort from the
Vixens who showed what they can achieve if they have the right attitude.
Every player worked hard and really dug deep in the second half when Goole
were fighting hard to equalise. Goole scored first, against the run of play
really, but Teneesha equalised with a lofted shot before Edina put Vixens in
front, keeping her cool and beating the keeper when played through. There
were no goals in the second half, but it was hardly dull as both teams put
in a wholehearted effort. All was going well until Tishana became the latest
victim of the curse of the knee injury.

Bradford City 8 v 3 Vixens |
|
Saturday 19th April 2008 ? |
For the first time that i can remember, we had
to take the field with only ten players. The girls tried their best but
couldn't cope against a decent Bradford side.
The positives were the hat
trick for Teneesha and the way the girls kept going. We have four fixtures
left, i would like to see the girls enjoying these games, then i hope they
can rest and recover over the summer. We do have good players in this age
group, we just need them fit and able to play.

|
York City 5 v 4 Vixens |
|
Saturday 26th April 2008 ? |
Vixens were worthy of a draw from this game, but after
pulling back from 4-2 down they conceeded a late goal to lose.
The lead
changed hands throughout the game, York scored in the first minute, but
goals from Teneesha and Nessy gave Vixens a 2-1 half time lead. York fought
back in the second half and went 4-2 up . Edina put here side back in the
game, chipping the keeper before Teneesha equalised with a great finish.
York scored the winner with barely a minute to go, this was another good
game between two sporting sides.
|
Vixens turned in a competitive performance against
Morley, but unfortunately weren't quite good enough.
The highlight of the
game was a really good goal from Ella Parker, who was pushed up front in the
latter part of the game. Ella, i believe is going to live in New Zeland and
it was a nice way for her to sign off for the Vixens.
|
Vixens completed their fixtures by playing two 40
minute games against Doncaster Belles on the same morning.
The Belles won both games
4-1, the girls tried hard enough, but the Belles are clearly the best side in
the league, and were deserved winners of both games. Vixens did score two
really good goals, the first a tremendous shot over the keeper from Nessie,
and the second another one of Teneesha's special solo efforts.
So that is
season 07/08 over, and i would imagine that everyone involved with the under
16s this season would have felt the same frustrations and disapointments that
Tim and i have. we made a good start to the season, but suffered some serious
injuries and the season slipped away from us.I would like to thank the girls
who stuck to the task throughout the season, both in training and on
matchdays. There is talk of us running an under 17 squad next season, i think
that we will have to see how many players turn up for pre-season training and
take it from there, one lesson from this season is that you need a squad of
around 16 comitted and interested players.
Finally, it seems that Ella Parker
and Stacey Saxton have both played their last games for the Vixens, these two
good friends were already at the club when i brought Loz here five seasons
ago. They have both been loyal and dependable, and i would like to wish them
all the very best in whatever they do in the future, i hope that they will
remember their time with the Vixens as happy days.

LEEDS UTD 9 v 0 LEEDS CITY VIXENS
