For those of you who know the story, dream sports car manufacturer Lamborghini started because Ferrari did not make a car good enough! Such is the case why the Vixens started! |
Way back in 1993 an exceptionally talented group of girls came together playing for Leeds United, but United were not prepared to play competitive football so the girls left to form Leeds City Vixens, managed by Martin Cockerill. |
This group of girls grew up together, conquering all who stood in their path, progressing through the Sheffield and District Girl's League, winning the under 12's, under 14's and under 16's. Ultimately, they formed an open age team that progressed through the adult leagues to their current position, riding high at the top of the Yorkshire and Humberside Premier League. |
Throughout this history, younger girls joined the club, permitting us to enter successful teams in the Four Counties Regional Girls League (as the Sheffield and District Girl's league is now called) and as we have continued to grow, the West Riding Girl's League. |
Until recently, Leeds United watched in awe as the Vixens compounded success upon success. We have now seen Leeds United take over as the largest ladies club in Yorkshire, but the Vixens, now under the leadership of John Southcombe, are starting to compete once more and within three years expect our open age to be competing in the Northern Premiership. |
Our partnership with Mears Group Plc. permits the club to put together the building blocks to make competing at this level sustainable………………so watch out Northern Premiership - we are coming! MEARS Group PLC are a rapidly expanding construction company successfully tendering for major Council contracts in the UK but more recently, in North West Leeds. |
